FOTO/Prep^® UV Transilluminator

The FOTO/Prep^® offers FOTODYNE's largest size UV filter glass, combined with top of the line features. Designed specifically to meet the demands of preparative DNA electrophoresis, the FOTO/Prep is built with a two-position control offering you both analytical and preparative mode settings. The analytical mode provides the nanogram level sensitivity that has distinguished all FOTODYNE 312 nm DNA transilluminators.

The reduced intensity, preparative mode allows visualization and excision of a 2000 bp band containing less than 10 ng of DNA. The gel can be exposed for 10 minutes with reduced photonicking. Also for preparative work, the FOTO/Prep includes a UviClear™ glass protector which enables you to cut out bands without damaging the expensive UV filter glass. When the UViClear becomes too scratched or solarized to use, simply replace it - at a fraction of the cost to replace the UV filter glass itself!

The FOTO/Prep also features the safety of a built-in, adjustable UV blocking cover designed to shield you from UV exposure while observing a gel or cutting out bands.

The cover can be positioned at any angle up to 90°, allowing easy access to the gel. To photograph the gel, the cover is simply raised all the way.

NOTE: Several applications (e.g. crosslinking to membranes) require the removal of the UviCear glass protector. This cover on the FOTO/Prep has been designed to permit an optional configuration which allows its easy removal for such applications.
